OKBET Casino Manila Update: Daniel Negreanu Breaks Two-Year Cold Streak, Wins $3.3M Shrb

The last two years, according to Daniel Negreanu, have been the worst cold streak of his illustrious 30-year career.
But the Poker Hall of Famer’s fortunes changed overnight when “Kid Poker” defeated Nick Petrangelo heads-up for $3.3 million in the 2022 $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl.

According to The Hendon Mob, the victory inside the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas is Negreanu’s second-largest live cash and his first SHRB ring after finishing runner-up in the 2018 SHRB for $3 million.

“I had a big crowd of friends come and I punted because I was trying to get out with them,” Negreanu said in a winner’s interview with PokerGO’s Jeff Platt.
“This year, I told people, ‘Don’t come…'”
Allow me to win this and I’ll come home, open a bottle of champaign, and then we’ll go to the hockey game tomorrow.
And just let me do what I do.'”

Negreanu’s Fortunes Have Turned Around

Most poker fans are likely aware that the last few years have not been kind to Negreanu.
Negreanu finished the 2022 World Series of Poker down $1.1 million and failed to be a Player of the Year contender for the first time in years earlier this summer.

More recently, Negreanu finished seventh in a $50,000 Poker Masters event when his pocket aces were cracked by Seth Davies’ jacks.

“I despise whining about bad luck,” he said after the win.
“This is the worst.
Nobody wants to listen to it.
My wife knows what it’s like when I come home.
It’s so frustrating to feel like you’re playing well but not seeing results.
‘Daniel, Daniel, Daniel, we gotta play your way,’ says the internet.
What do you think?
“I just did my thing, and it felt fantastic.”

Despite the multi-year dry spell, Negreanu stated that he “felt super confident coming into this one, (playing) deep-stacked No-Limit Hold’em,” and that he had tested out some new playing strategies at Poker Masters.

“There’s still room for evolution (in poker strategy),” he said.
“Especially in deep-stacked poker, 100 (big blinds) deep, with that limping strategy that no one studies.”
And I knew that going in, and I thought to myself, ‘I don’t think they’re going to be as prepared as I am.’
It’s something I’ve been doing for three decades.”

Action by the SHRB

The $300,000 buy-in event drew only 24 entrants, resulting in a $7.2 million prize pool with only four places paid.

Most of the usual suspects were present, including David Peters, Michael Addamo, Isaac Haxton, Stephen Chidwick, and Sean Winter, who had recently won the Poker Masters Championship at the same venue.

The controversial Bryn Kenney was eliminated early on Day 1 after flopping a set of aces only to be outdrawn by Negreanu’s running quad threes, a brutal beat for the accused poker cheater.

Orpen Kisacikoglu of Turkey entered the five-handed final table as the short stack and exited on the money bubble before all-time money leader Justin Bonomo, who defeated Negreanu heads-up in the event in 2018, finished fourth for $720,000.

Negreanu came into the final table with a sizable chip lead, which he increased in a big hand in which he turned the nut straight against Petrangelo’s top pair, who improved to trips on the river and called a sizable check-raise from the eventual champion.

After defeating Andrew Lichtenberger in third place with an ace-six that dominated “LuckyChewy’s” king-six, Negreanu entered heads-up play against Petrangelo with a large chip lead and gradually chipped away at the Massachusetts pro, who had $24.6 million in Hendon Mob earnings coming into the event.

In the final hand, Negreanu moved all in with queen-seven and Petrangelo called with king-five.
The flop gave Negreanu a pair and flush draw, leaving Petrangelo drawing nearly dead, and he couldn’t suck out as the turn and river bricked off, forcing him to settle for a $2 million second-place prize.
